A gastroscopy is a procedure where a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is used to look inside the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine. It’s also sometimes referred to as an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The endoscope has a light and a camera at one end.

A colonoscopy is an exam used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine and rectum. During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube (colonoscope) is inserted into the rectum. A tiny video camera at the tip of the tube allows the doctor to view the inside of the entire colon

A/Prof Marno Ryan consults weekly at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Fitzroy and once a month at Central Gippsland Health Service in Sale.
